Tess and Hayley are enjoying an improved phase in their lives, but an unsettling event at school soon gives Tess something to fret over, while Tom and Reverend Grace's relationship becomes more intimate. On another front, Tom suspects a retired burglar of a recent break-in, but when questioned, the old man insists he’s been framed. The Heelers follow a new lead, which takes them to two teenage boys, one of whom is the estranged son of the retired thief. Is he at risk of repeating his father’s mistakes? After a second robbery that involves a serious attack, the old man stands up for his son, convinced of his innocence despite his flaws as a parent. As the Heelers track down their initial suspect, they find he has an unbreakable alibi. Could he be manipulating the retired thief's son? Tom grows increasingly concerned for the old man's safety when he is found beaten and his son is missing. Can the drive to protect and impress lead to dangerous outcomes
