Sgt. Tess Gallagher goes above and beyond her duties when she suspects that the three children of a local woman are being mistreated by her new partner. Despite Sen Sgt. Tom Croydon insisting there's no evidence of abuse, Tess's determination drives her to investigate further, motivated by her own past experiences. When she finds ten-year-old Hayley, eight-year-old Darien, and six-year-old Frasier hiding in her car after a night spent there, Tess realizes her instincts were correct. After bringing them into her home and planning to take them to DHS for safety, the children panic and run off to the nearby mines. Tess faces a tough situation as she has to admit to Tom that the kids are missing, and their mother, Tina, is unaware of their disappearance.
