In contrast to the previous world wars, the Vietnam conflict lacked a traditional front line. Instead, skirmishes erupted in various resistance zones, with soldiers being airlifted in by helicopters. The only demarcation was the DMZ (De-Militarized Zone), which separated North Vietnam from South Vietnam.
