Episode Overview
Victoria searches for David in the Collinwood basement when a stranger walks in and questions her identity, accusing her of prying into things. Just then, Elizabeth arrives and identifies the man as Matthew Morgan, Collinwood's caretaker. She inquires about Victoria's presence, and upon learning she is looking for David, informs her that he wouldn’t be down there. After Elizabeth departs, she discovers David hiding in the basement. Later, Victoria encounters Matthew again as he tends to the fireplace. She expresses her hope for friendship and starts asking him questions, uncovering that Elizabeth dismissed all the household staff 18 years prior, eventually hiring Matthew and giving him a cottage on the estate. Meanwhile, Elizabeth finds a crate of adventure books that once belonged to Roger, but David is uninterested in anything tied to his father. Carolyn advises Victoria to speak with Elizabeth about the past.
