Edwardian Farm (2010)
S01E08 April
Episode Overview
As April rolls in, the fishing season kicks off, prompting Devon’s ‘fisherman-farmers’ to venture out to sea. Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn set sail on an Edwardian trawler, wrapping up last-minute repairs before heading into the water. They learn to navigate the wind-powered boat, sing sea shanties, and cast nets in traditional ways—though it remains to be seen if they’ll bring home any fish. Meanwhile, Ruth Goodman stays on land, believing women are bad luck at sea. She gathers ingredients from the shore to make potted shrimp and constructs a smokehouse to smoke mackerel. As Peter and Alex drive their cattle along a treacherous path in search of fresher pastures and prepare for the arrival of a new calf, Alex crafts a coracle that Peter tests in a pond. Ruth also delves into the Edwardian trend of holding séances.
