In the late 23rd century, the aging interplanetary cargo ship, Pequod, is deep into a decade-long reclamation mission for The Company, which has governed North America since 2102. While the crew is in hyper-sleep, the ship encounters an enigmatic object drifting in space. When they are roused from their artificial slumber, they retrieve the pod, only to be stunned by the sight of Virgil Nygard, a man executed 150 years prior for leading a militia that massacred over a million people. Their astonishment grows further when they learn that Nygard is still alive.
