William Grimes, the head of an Arctic exploration team, loses his sanity while investigating an ice cave and tragically kills two of his teammates before meeting his own demise. To help the shaken staff at the research facility, psychologist Jack Burrell is dispatched. Among his patients is Robby Archer, the facility's director and Jack's childhood friend. Their reunion is strained due to a shared traumatic experience from their youth, yet they must collaborate to address the crisis. Grimes has introduced polar mites, an unusual ant-like species that invade human tissue, leading to severe psychological disturbances among the crew.
