Ignoring the objections of her friends, Joan decides to heed the advice of her elitist guidance counselor, who discourages her from pursuing higher education. However, during a visit to a college, she meets Roger, an intriguing student, who encourages her that college is within reach and convinces her to enlist him as a tutor.
