Frustrated by Will and Helen's prohibition against attending a concert with Adam and spending the night in his father's camper, Joan takes matters into her own hands and sneaks out. After reflecting on free will in a chat with God, she rationalizes her deception towards her mother, believing Helen wants to keep her in a childlike state. Meanwhile, Luke is taken aback when the socially awkward, girl-crazy Friedman turns down the unexpected romantic overtures from a smitten Stevie.
