Tom Silva is seldom at a loss for ideas. However, when a homeowner contacted him about a hand-turned spindle that had gone missing from her staircase in a 1900s Queen Anne Rowhouse, he took on the challenge of recreating the intricate spiral-detailed spindles using his lathe. He worked with straight grain fir to craft the balusters and experimented with a string technique to successfully replicate the spiral design.
