In 1967, Aretha seeks a breakthrough by heading to Muscle Shoals to create her debut album for Atlantic Records. Meanwhile, after the passing of her surrogate mother, Little Re faces her fears and takes the stage for her first solo performance in 1953 at her father C.L. Franklin's church.
