Meanwhile, Montgomery Monk arrives at the Shumway residence to start George’s deprogramming process. Mary presents Pat with a cover story from Ms. magazine addressing battered wives, urging her to stand up to Garth. During a heated argument with Garth about Mary’s visit, Pat slaps him. As Loretta prepares to board her bus to Dayton for a recording session, she faces harassment from photographer Jake Walters. A drunken passenger intervenes, leading to a brawl that results in Loretta being struck on the head, causing her amnesia.
