Douglas Wambaugh challenges the murder conviction of Mayor Pugen, but unexpectedly, the mayor bursts into flames. Meanwhile, a Catholic couple struggles with the church's stance against contraception, knowing they both carry the genes for Hurler syndrome. In another storyline, Max's therapist tries to coerce her into a sexual relationship, leading her to take a stand by having him arrested.
