Episode Overview

On November 12, 2001, merely two months post-September 11 attacks, American Airlines Flight 587 departs from John F. Kennedy Airport but quickly loses control. The plane tragically crashes in the Queens neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of all 260 passengers and crew members aboard, as well as five individuals on the ground. The disaster is attributed to the first officer's incorrect use of the rudder, which caused the vertical stabilizer to detach after the aircraft encountered wake turbulence from a Boeing 747-400 that had taken off shortly before.
