Episode Overview
On December 24, 1994, Air France Flight 8969 is seized by four terrorists while on the tarmac at Algiers Airport. Their intent is to fly the plane to Paris and detonate it over the Eiffel Tower. However, the Algerian Army intervenes, preventing the aircraft from taking off. Over the course of two days, the terrorists execute three passengers. Eventually, the plane is permitted to leave but the crew diverts to Marseille Provence Airport. A French Gendarmerie hostage rescue team swiftly storms the aircraft, resulting in a gunfight that ends with the death of all four hijackers and the safe evacuation of remaining hostages. This operation is hailed as one of the most effective anti-terrorism missions ever.
