Episode Overview
In the second episode, Bashar Assad has assumed the presidency of Syria, while his stylish wife, Asma, takes on the role of first lady. They quickly encounter numerous challenges, including Asma's in-laws, who disapprove of her public position and prefer she remain out of the spotlight. Meanwhile, an irate U.S. president labels Syria as part of the "axis of evil," and the United Nations passes resolutions that Bashar's family urges him to disregard. The Assads soon find themselves entangled in a murder probe when a political rival is killed in a car bombing. Featuring rare footage of the couple, the episode spans from the grand opening of their opera house in Damascus to the horrifying massacre of prisoners in the nation’s largest jail.
