Episode Overview
In a hidden cave, a shadowy figure manipulates a chessboard with a piece resembling James West. Meanwhile, West and his partner, Artemus Gordon, receive alarming newspapers forecasting the deaths of their friends before they happen. Despite their efforts, they can’t prevent the tragedies but trace the source to the printing press. This leads Jim into the clutches of Mr. Braine, a cunning, wheelchair-bound criminal genius armed with steam-powered weaponry. Braine has orchestrated their every move and proposes a sinister alliance to eliminate world leaders, boasting a double of Artemus. Anticipating the real Artie’s infiltration, Braine is outsmarted when Gordon cleverly uses a mask within a mask. Seizing the moment, Jim confronts Braine and ultimately destroys him along with his menacing wheelchair.
