Lynley and Havers delve into the murder of Professor Dermot Finnegan, an old friend and mentor to Helen, who has fallen victim to a car bomb. While pregnant, Helen is later assaulted in her vehicle, and upon her arrival at the hospital, it’s revealed that her baby has tragically died. Havers investigates Finnegan's office and discovers letters of affection from multiple women, including one from Helen.
