Episode Overview
Saunders' close friend, the squad's B.A.R. (Browning Automatic Rifle) gunner, is killed in action. Kirby thinks that Saunders will pass the B.A.R. on to him, but Saunders instead chooses to give it to a new recruit—a cook who had previously qualified on the B.A.R. during training. Tragically, when the new recruit is also killed, Saunders reflects on his decision, realizing that the reasoning behind giving the B.A.R. to the newcomer no longer holds significance.
