Battles BC (2009)
S01E04 Caesar: Super Siege
Episode Overview
In 52 BC, the formidable Roman General Julius Caesar is carving his path through Gaul. Thanks to his unyielding determination, the Romans achieve their ambitious goal of total control over the Mediterranean, ultimately defeating the Gauls in the climactic battle of the Gallic Wars. For a time, it seemed that victory was within reach for the Gauls, who outnumbered the Romans five to one and occupied the strategic hilltop city of Alesia. However, Caesar lays siege to Alesia, erecting a wall that cuts off all supply routes. When Gallic reinforcements attempt to relieve the siege, Caesar surprises everyone by building a second wall between his forces and the incoming troops. It's a dual siege, but Caesar is confident that his better supplies will give the Romans the edge they need to prevail.
