Speed with Guy Martin (2013)
S01E03 Human Powered Aircraft
Episode Overview
Guy embarks on an ambitious quest to achieve the extraordinary: flying purely through muscle power. His goal is to create the fastest human-powered aircraft, relying solely on his cycling prowess. He travels to Southampton University, the site where Derek Piggot made history on November 9, 1961, as the first person to fly under his own power. Now, 42 years later, Guy teams up with university experts to construct a plane from the ground up, aiming for a seven-month deadline. He begins training with stunt pilot Guy Westgate to master gliding, measures his cycling output at a velodrome, and undergoes rigorous physical conditioning. Ultimately, Guy prepares to compete in the Icarus Cup, determined to pilot the fastest human-powered aircraft ever.
