Tutankhamun's Egypt (1972)
S01E05 Death and Burial
Episode Overview
Mummies are among the most recognized artifacts from ancient Egyptian civilization. Paired with the intricate tombs of the pharaohs, they paint a picture of a culture fixated on death and a materialistic perspective of the afterlife. However, Egyptian beliefs evolved over time and differed across social classes, revealing that they weren’t as certain about the afterlife as their grand monuments suggest. This perspective was presented by Cyril Aldred during the 1972 Tutankhamun Exhibition at the British Museum.
