During the season's inaugural track meet, JJ (Will Estes) and Sam (Arlen Escarpeta) compete for the chance to race against one of the city’s top sprinters, forging an unexpected bond in the process. Meanwhile, post-breakup, Meg (Brittany Snow) and Luke (Jamie Elman) navigate the complexities of their relationship with guidance from their friends Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies) and Mr. Greenwood (guest star Art Garfunkel), the local record store owner. In another storyline, Helen (Gail O'Grady) is led to believe by her classmates that her professor, Mr. Witt (guest star Robby Benson), has romantic feelings for her.
