Episode Overview
Jack reveals to Meg that Jimmy visited the shop and wants to take her out, granting her permission to go. Meanwhile, Patty develops a crush on a new boy competing in the spelling bee. She overhears Roxanne giving Meg dating advice and takes it a bit too seriously. Rebecca invites Jack and Helen for a double date with her husband, Leo, an economics professor. J.J. initially hesitates to take Beth to a mixer due to his poor dancing skills, but Meg steps in to help him. However, Jack grows frustrated with Rebecca's outspoken boyfriend. Meg's date with Jimmy takes a turn for the worse when she talks excessively about cars and accidentally injures him. Frustrated, Beth decides to attend the mixer solo. Unable to reach her parents, Meg accepts a walk home with Sam, which leads to a police stop. In the spelling bee, Patty falters and is exposed by Roxanne, who realizes she didn’t perform her best.
