Tensions escalate between Ray and Robert as their rivalry for attention culminates in a physical altercation. Ray faces disappointment when his aspirations of writing a sports book are dashed after the publishing house rejects his proposal. To add insult to injury, Robert celebrates the news of his promotion to lieutenant, leaving Ray feeling even more defeated.
