Karen's unexpected return home disrupts the living situation for Kevin and Wayne. After a heated argument with Michael, communication between them has ceased. Jack uncovers that Michael had previously proposed to Karen, but she was hesitant about such conventional commitments. In an effort to win her back, Michael sets up camp on the Arnold family's front lawn. After enduring ten days of this, Karen surprises everyone by taking the initiative and proposing to Michael herself.
