Spenser plans a skiing trip with Susan, but when he arrives at Smithfield High School to pick her up, he learns that one of her students has died from a heroin overdose. Concerned, Spenser is soon enlisted by the superintendent to investigate, going undercover as a teacher at the school to uncover the source of the drugs. As he digs deeper into the situation, he inevitably confronts the dealers involved.
