After a militia chief sets off a nuclear explosion in Washington, the Backstep takes an unexpected turn as the Sphere returns without Parker. The team now faces a race against time, with only a week to uncover the impending catastrophe and find a solution before disaster strikes. Their only aid comes from a hesitant psychic, a former subject of one of Mentnor's earlier experiments, who may hold the key to their success.
