Mrs. Bradley confronts Victor Laurier with a gun, demanding to know the whereabouts of her husband, convinced he is still alive. Victor, who oversaw a POW camp during the war, reveals that he sent 27 Union soldiers and three guards, including his own son, eastward, but they never arrived at their intended location. Four years after her husband was presumed dead, Mrs. Bradley received a letter from him, deepening her determination to uncover the truth.
