Stardate 41723.9. The Ferengi present Captain Picard with the U.S.S. Stargazer, an old vessel he once commanded. However, they have equipped it with a mind-altering device that distorts Picard's perception, making him believe he is reexperiencing a historic battle. In this altered state, he perceives the USS Enterprise as his adversary, leading to a conflict that blurs the lines between past and present as he struggles to discern reality from the manipulation of his mind.
