In 1987, affluent New York couple Joseph John and Diane Whitmore Pikul are on the verge of divorce. With a contentious custody dispute looming and Diane poised to seek alimony, Joe feels overwhelmed by the impending turmoil. However, before discussions can commence, tragedy strikes when Diane is discovered murdered close to their summer residence in the Hamptons.
