In the first part of the double finale, Greg Roberts creates a moral dilemma for Charlotte after he attacks a patient who has stolen pethidine from the ward. Meanwhile, Paula connects with a woman caring for her husband with dementia. Luke proposes to Paula, but she reveals that she never finalized her divorce from Max’s father, Michael. Alan Marden, the hospital's financial controller, is brought in with hyperthermia and witnesses firsthand the impact of his budget cuts. A disturbed gunman goes on a shooting rampage while pursuing Charlotte through the hospital. Terri bends the rules to save her supervisor's life, and Regina and Morris' anniversary takes a tragic turn.
