In 1895 Egypt, Elizabeth Ruckeyser, the curator at the Crawford Institute in New York, enlists Sydney and Nigel to locate a long-lost artifact: the sacred statue of Mafdet, the cat goddess, which Sydney has previously discovered and returned. The relic is said to carry a deadly curse, ensuring that anyone who steals it meets their end by the claws of a cat. As they investigate the seedy underbelly of Manhattan's art theft scene, they uncover a trail of corpses bearing mysterious marks. Is Mafdet exacting her vengeance, or is someone orchestrating this ominous fate?
