Episode Overview
A decade marked by upheaval unfolds across various locations, from China and Central America to Kitty Hawk and Henry Ford's factory, as well as on America's baseball diamonds. In 1894, sportswriter Byron Bancroft "Ban" Johnson revitalizes the struggling Western League, transforming it into a profitable enterprise. By 1900, he rebrands it as the American League and starts plans to challenge the National League's dominance in major cities. This revolution accelerates quickly, culminating in 1903 with the inaugural World Series featuring the American League's Boston Pilgrims against the National League's Pittsburgh Pirates.
