Episode Overview

While watching the National Cable Ace Awards, the gang is surprised to see former waitress Diane Chambers winning for best writing in a mini-series. Sam seizes the moment to call her, only to learn she is now married with kids. He claims he has a family too and invites Diane and her husband to visit. However, Sam is skeptical and is taken aback when Diane shows up at Cheers the next day with her husband, Mrs. Malone. Meanwhile, Rebecca's boyfriend, Don, proposes, but she accidentally declines, leaving her heartbroken. To help Sam, she pretends to be his wife during Diane's visit. At dinner with Diane and her husband, Reed, Don shows up again and proposes, and this time Rebecca accepts. As they leave, Sam feels foolish, only to find out that Diane's husband is actually a fraud when his real partner, Kevin, arrives.
