As summer winds down, Felicity's father pressures her about her future plans. Eager to demonstrate her commitment to her art major, she aims to join the honors program. Meanwhile, Ben returns from EMT training, declaring his aspiration to become a doctor. He enrolls in a demanding course-load, only to discover he'll need an additional year to fulfill his pre-med courses. Felicity feels unsettled by Ben's newfound ambition, expecting him to be as directionless as she is, and turns to the unemployed Noel for comfort. When her father visits and criticizes her college choices, Felicity, enraged, decides to fund her final year herself and files for independence. Amid her turmoil, she arrives late to work, compelling Ben to step in for her. He then finds himself tardy to his first organic chemistry class, where the professor locks him out.
