Ignoring Eric's warnings, Matt accepts a position caring for a terminally ill boy named Steve. Meanwhile, Annie is persuaded by her daughters, Mary and Lucy, to start a muffin business. She partners with David Friel, a cookie shop owner eager to increase his sales, but Annie soon realizes that running the business is far more challenging than she expected. Additionally, Ruthie provides Simon with a harsh lesson in salesmanship when she becomes his rival in selling greeting cards.
