While in the student union, David and Donna get into a heated argument, and in a fit of rage, David injures his hand on a shard of glass. His aggressive outburst towards the ER staff prompts the need for psychiatric evaluation. Mel supports the doctor’s decision to keep David under observation for 72 hours, leading to a diagnosis of mild manic depression. When his mother visits, she advises him to control his actions and assures him that therapy and abstaining from alcohol could eliminate the need for medication. Grateful for Donna's support, David decides to rekindle their relationship. Meanwhile, Steve faces allegations of plagiarism after Professor Randall, who has taken over the independent study course, recognizes Brandon’s work, leading to accusations of collusion. Kelly and Mark's romantic weekend plans go awry due to a lost reservation. They eventually find a motel room but end up with food poisoning. The group also helps Willie build a house.
