Episode Overview

Kelly feels hurt when a gay couple is awarded custody of a baby. The teenage mother reconsiders her decision, wanting her son back solely because she disapproves of him being raised by two men. However, Kyle and Gene willingly step aside, believing it’s in the child's best interest. As Kelly reflects on the situation, she starts to see that Kyle and Gene might be better parents than she and Leann could be, ultimately convincing the mother to give up custody after realizing she can't provide the care the child needs. Meanwhile, with the newspaper facing financial struggles, Steve decides to take on ads from a cigarette company, which angers Brandon, who threatens to quit. Steve is swayed when Brandon reminds him of the positive impact his writing has had on people. After a few dates, Steve admits to Jill that he isn’t Ted—the man she has been corresponding with. She chooses to end their relationship, prompting him to promise he will find Ted to make her happy. Additionally, David reconnect
