After hot-headed trumpet player Kenny Davis decides to leave the renowned Les McCann Band, bandmate Billy Miller suggests his friend Joey Emerson try out for the vacant position. Joey impresses everyone with his exceptional audition and lands the role. At his first gig with the band, Kenny shows up to hear Joey play and praises his skill. Feeling generous, Joey lends Kenny his trumpet, allowing him to join in for a song. Enthusiastic about reconnecting with his old bandmates, Kenny ends up staying on stage for the entire night, relishing the moment.
