Previous owners experienced tragic losses, including the deaths of their wives from illness and a father who accidentally shot his son. Another owner met a mysterious end. In 1933, the Sisters of St. Joseph took over, transforming the estate into a retreat for nuns, a girls' camp, and a training school for the deaf, further entwining the winery in its eerie folklore.
