Secrets of the London Underground (2021)
S03E07 Heathrow and Swiss Cottage
Episode Overview
Tim Dunn and Siddy Holloway gear up for an adventure through the extensive underground stations of Heathrow Airport, the first rail connection linking the airport to the city. They kick off their journey at the original Heathrow Central, now known as Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, making a stop at Hatton Cross, where they admire the striking 70’s mosaics and speedbird logos. Their exploration leads them to the sleek, futuristic design of Terminal 4. They then take a unique ride on the Heathrow loop, a tube tunnel that runs beneath the runway, climbing into the driver's cab and disembarking at a hidden platform to investigate a ventilation shaft, emerging above ground amidst the sounds of planes. Afterward, Siddy travels to north west London to uncover the history of Swiss Cottage station, one of the early stops on the expanding Metropolitan Railway. With the original platforms closed to the public for 80 years, she discovers the remnants of this once-bustling hub.
