Episode Overview
The journey takes them to the unique Old Street station, which accommodates both the Northern line and mainline services. They investigate the distinct characteristics of the platforms and tunnels associated with each line. Since its inception in 1901, the station has experienced significant transformations, yet traces of its early days remain for those who know where to look. Tim squeezes through a small door to uncover a concealed passage featuring an original vaulted ceiling adorned with tiles. Meanwhile, Siddy finds a staircase that hasn't been used since the 1920s, complete with an original sign listing Northern Line stops. Siddy also explores Hampstead, the deepest station in the Underground network, which boasts the deepest lift shaft. She takes a thrilling ride atop the lift to admire the impressive 55-meter shaft firsthand. Back at the Museum depot, Tim meets the pioneering female driver of the Victoria line, who shares her experiences of working on the tube during the 1970s.
