The Maniac Latin Disciples, Chicago's second-largest Latin gang, dominate the city's northwest side. Established in the early 1960s, the MLDs have expanded significantly, prompting U.S. Attorney for Illinois, Patrick Fitzgerald, to label them a "super gang" during a 2005 Congressional testimony. With thousands of foot soldiers on the streets, the gang relies on strong leadership to maintain control.
