Episode Overview

After retrieving a career criminal from prison for additional interrogation, Tyler, Ray, and Chris find themselves ambushed by armed assailants, allowing the prisoner to escape. Is a local mobster behind this, or could it be that Gene's former mentor orchestrated the chaos? Meanwhile, Sam seeks to dissuade the department's first black detective from conforming to stereotypes, as he will be stepping into the role of Sam's mentor when he officially joins the force.
