Ellenor is determined to rescue Denise Freeman, a former death-row inmate who has dedicated her time in prison to mentoring younger offenders. In a desperate attempt to halt Denise's execution, Ellenor files an appeal focused on the medication mandated by the court during the trial, which obscured the jury's ability to recognize her schizophrenia. Meanwhile, Eugene is engaged in a civil lawsuit against a beer company, holding it responsible for the death of a young college student.
