Episode Overview

The scene opens in the hospital lobby where Vint finds Naomi, Ellen, and Eunice gathered, looking anxious. Curious about what happened, he prompts them for details, and Naomi jumps in to recount the day’s chaotic events in the kitchen. Mama and the girls were busy making gooseberry jam, with Ellen lending a hand while Eunice rushed in late, claiming her car had broken down and that she narrowly escaped being hit on Route 5. Ellen, however, argues that she was on Route 5 picking berries and didn’t see Eunice at all, leading to a heated argument between them. As the tension rises, the gooseberries begin to stick to the pot. When Mama calls out, “Sweetie, grab that pot for me,” both girls dash for it, continuing their squabble. Ignoring Naomi’s pleas to stay out of it, they wrestle for control of the pan and, in the chaos, accidentally smack Mama in the face, knocking her out cold.
