Walking Britain's Lost Railways (2018)
S02E06 Edinburgh
Episode Overview
Rob Bell takes a journey along the historic Waverley Route, which stretches 100 miles from Edinburgh through the picturesque Scottish Borders to Carlisle, linking up with the contemporary West Coast Main Line. After years of advocacy, he embarks on the new Borders Railway, the longest railway to open in over a century, which partially reuses the old Waverley Route and showcases the stunning 170-year-old Newbattle Viaduct with its 23 arches. Additionally, Rob visits one of Hawick's remaining cashmere factories and learns about a World War I prisoner of war camp that was accessible via the railway.
