Walking Britain's Lost Railways (2018)
S03E04 East Midlands
Episode Overview
Rob Bell embarks on a journey along the Great Central Railway, the last significant railway line of the Victorian era and the final main line constructed before the Channel Tunnel rail link over a hundred years later. Beginning in Nottingham, Rob is surprised by the extent of the demolition and digging required to create this line through the city. Near Loughborough, he learns about a major project aimed at reconstructing bridges and 500 yards of track to connect two heritage lines and revive a 20-mile stretch of the old railway. He also stops by Leicester Central station, which, once abandoned, is now being transformed into a bowling alley.
