This Old House (1979)
S15E07 The Belmont House - 7
Episode Overview
As our host arrives, the crew is busy prepping to frame the gutted kitchen. Before that can happen, Richard Trethewey steps in to demonstrate the process of relocating the plumbing stack. Tom Silva points out how previous renovations have affected the framing, and he shares his strategy for installing a carrying beam and raising the floor. Outside, homeowners Dean and Lauren are working on removing the last remnants of paint from an oval window frame using a caustic paste. Dean reveals some rot he found on the porch walls, and they discuss the possibility of adding wood shingles to the front slope of the roof. Later, Dean checks out a job site to learn more about shingling an eyebrow window. Meanwhile, the window crew starts updating the old windows with insulating glass, and our host assists in placing the engineered lumber beam in the kitchen.
